Rare! Dedication Handwritten by the Famed Gaon Rabbi Bezalel Hacohen of Vilna to Maran Rabbi Chaim Berlin on His Book Reishit Bikkurim - First Edition Vilna, 1869 - Sefer Reishit Bikkurim - Shut on varied matters - by the Gaon Rabbi Bezalel Hacohen of Vilna - the Press of Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak Dvorzetz - Vilna, 1869 - first edition.  Mounted on the flylead is a printed dedication, with additions handwritten by the famed Gaon Rabbi Bezalel Hacohen of Vilna, the Rav of the Chafetz Chaim. Between the printed words of the dedication, Rabbeinu handwrote in Rashi script: ”הגאון הגדול המפורסם שלשלת היוחסין למעלה בקו' הקדשים מו”ה החיים ברלין... אב”ד דפ”ק מאסקווא”. The word 'דפ”ק' that is ”דפה קהילת” (here in the community of) is interesting. Apparently, Rabbeinu gave his book to Rav Berlin during a visit to Moscow.  Several stamps of Maran Rabbi Chaim Berlin from his last tenure as Av Beit Din of Jerusalem: ”חיים ברלין בהגאון אדמו”ר הנצי”ב זצ”ל מלפנים רב במאסקווא ואב”ד ור”מ בוואלוז'ין וכעת בירושלים עה”ק ת”ו”. 164 pp.  Stains. Good condition.  The famed Gaon Rabbi Bezalel Hacohen of Vilna (1820-1878) the Rav of the Chafetz Chaim. A wonderous Gaon and Iluy. It is told that he finished the Shas when he was only 13! and that at the age of 14, he wrote Halachic Responsa. The son of Rabbi Yisrael Moshe Dayan of Vilna and brother of the famed Gaon author of the Cheshek Shlomo. Was famed mainly for his Mareh Cohen glosses on the Shas which were printed in the famed Vilna edition. His friend, the Gaon author of the Aderet wrote of him: ”הגאון הגדול הצדיק יסו”ע הרב רבי בצלאל זצ”ל... גדול הדור... ראש וראשון לכל דבר בווילנא”.  Authored many books inlcuding Birkat Reishit, Leket Be'urim and more.  The Gaon Rabbi Chaim Berlin (1832-1913) of Volozhin, the son of the Natziv. Served as the Chief Rabbi of Moskow and as the Rosh Yeshiva of the famed Volozhin Yeshiva. In 1906, he immigrated to Jerusalem and after the passing of Rabbi Shmuel Salant was recognized as the Rav of the Ashkenazic community of Jerusalem although he refused the official position.
