Cordial Letter with Warm Blessings Handwritten and Signed by the Gaon Rabbi Avraham Kalmanovich President of the Mir Yeshiva - 1934 - Cordial letter with warm blessings handwritten and signed by the Gaon Rabbi Avraham Kalmanovich President of the Mir Yeshiva, addressed to the Gaon Rabbi Yechezkel Sarna the Rosh Yeshiva of Hebron. Menachem Av 7, 1934.  At the beginning of his letter: ”בין המצרים יהפך לניחומים ויזרח אור לישרים”.  In his letter, he apologizes for not managing a visit to Rav Sarna to bid him farewell: ”מרב עבודה ומכל הטרדה לא הספקתי לסור עוד הפעם לביתו להפרד בברכה ואתו הסליחה”.  Later, he writes that he is sending his donation and blessings for the yeshiva: ”הנני שולח בזה נדבתי לטובת הבין של הישיה”ק [הישיבה הקדושה] ... והנני מברך שתזכו לבנות את הבית הזה בקרוב ויחד עם זה יבנו הבית רוחני בית שמגדלין בו תורה ויראה טהורה עד מלאה הארץ דעה את ד'”. After his signature, he added: ”יתפללו נא עלי כי יהי' הדרך בהצלחה ובנקל ושאמצא בביתי כולם חו”ש [חזקים ושלמים] לאוי”ט. פ”ש [פריסת שלום] להרב הרי”ל חסמן... ולכל המנהלים ולכל בני הישיבה הק'... יחיו כולם ברב טוב סלה”. 13X21 cm. Good overall condition.  Rabbi Avraham Kalmanovich (1891-1964) President of the Mir Yeshiva, one of the leaders of Vaad hahatzalah of the Union of USA Rabbis and a foremost activist during the Holocaust. Headed the Volkovisk Yeshiva and after immigrating to the USA, dedicated his life to rescuing She'erit Hapletah. In 1913, when he was 22, he was appointed Rav of Rakov. In 1922, he was appointed President of the Mir Yeshiva and in 1929, was appointed Rav of Tiktin. Was close to the Chafetz Chaim and Rabbi Chaim Ozer Grodzinsky. Re-founded the Mir Yeshiva in Brooklyn and was one of the major founders of Vaad Hahatzalah.  Rabbi Yechezkel Sarna - Rav Chetzkel (1890-1969) was the Rosh Yeshiva of Hebron Knesset Yisrael and a member of Moetzet Gedolei HaTorah. He was a disicple of the Saba of Slabodka and was responsible for the transfer of the yeshiva from Slobodka to Hebron and then (after the 1929 Riots) to Jerusalem. Many of his disciples became Rashei Yeshivot, rabbis, and Dayanim in Israel and around the world. Authored the books Daliyot Yechezkel on the Torah and Mussar and Beit Yechezkel on the Shas and the Rambam.
