He bore the burden of the leadership of the Chassidut alongside his brother and served as the chief president of the Beit Yisrael Alexander yeshiva network in Poland — a widespread net of Chassidic yeshivos comprising dozens of yeshivos across some 30 cities, including a central yeshiva in Łódź with over 300 students. With the outbreak of the Holocaust, he was taken to the Warsaw Ghetto, where prayer services continued to be held in his home with great self-sacrifice. Later, he was deported together with Rabbi Meir Alter, son of the Imrei Emet of Ger, and others to the Treblinka extermination camp. On Yom Kippur 1942, he was murdered Al Kiddush Hashem along with members of his family. Hisfigure remains etched in the hearts of Alexander Chassidim as a model of righteousness and spiritual leadership to this very day.
