Postcard with a Halachic Responsum Handwritten and Signed by Rabbi Yosef Ruzhin, the Rogachover, to the Mekubal Rabbi Asher Zelig Margulies - Dvinsk, 1930 - Postcard with a Halachic Responsum handwritten and signed by the Gaon Rabbi Yosef Ruzhin, the Rogachover, about short clothes, growing a forelock and shaving one's beard - Dvinsk, 1930.  Rabbeinu addressed questions he received from the Mekubal the Gaon Rabbi Asher Zelig Margulies in a letter to him (a fascinating in itself; see Shut Tzofnat Pane'ach Hachadashot Siman 12, where the question and this response were printed) with 3 questions: 1. about short clothes; 2. about growing a forelock and 3. shaving one's beard with scissors. Rabbeinu sent his response on Thursday, Kislev 21, 1930 from Dvinsk, answering the questions by their order. The third answer begins with the words: ”והרבה הארכתי... [!]”.  Rabbeinu noted his opinion about shaving one's beard: ”דודאי אסור מה”ת רק אינו לוקה...”. Rabbeinu typically ends his letter  with the words: ”ואקצר. יוסף ראזין רב דפה הנ”ל”. [1] postcard. 10X15 cm. Some smearing of the ink. Good overall condition.  The Gaon Rabbi Yosef Ruzhin, the Rogachover (1858-1936) the Rav of the Chassidic community of Dvinsk and author of the Tzofnat Pane'ach Shut and Chidushim.  A famed Gaon, who nevertheless responded to anyone who asked him a question. His deep responses, which included many references, challenged the community of learners who studied his words. In two letters that Maran the Chazon Ish sent to the Rogachover, the Chazon Ish titles him ”Raban shel Yisrael”.
