Rare Letter Handwritten and Signed by the Gaon the Goren David to the Gaon the Yeri'ot Shlomo with Sharp Expressions - Yarmat, 1859 - Rare letter handwritten and signed by the Gaon Rabbi Aharon David Deutsch of Yarmat, the Goren David, addressed  to the Gaon Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Ulman of makova, the Yeri'ot Shlomo - Yarmat, 1859. At the beginning of his letter, it seems that the Gaon is aplogizing for the delay in sending a response. Apparently, he is referring to a burning issue that cannot wait and he uses sharp expressions to describe it:  ”ותפילתינו בפי יתקיים בי' במר ניהו רבה, צופה רשע לצדיק ד' לא יעזבנו בידו, וצדיק מצרה נחלץ ויבוא רשע תחתיו, יבוא בעל הכרם ויבער קוצים יבישים, ואותנו יקרב לעבודתו ונהי' כזית רענן דשנים ורעננים בביתו ובהיכלו”. A historical review indicates that during those years. the Gaon the Yeri'ot Shlomo fought Maskilim who tried to defile the synagogues of his town. The sharp language of the letter possibly indicates this is the burning issue. Morover, on the margisn of the letter, following his signature, the Goren David requests the following: ”והחסד שיעשה עמדי אדוני שכאשר יתגלה ישועת ד' ותצא כנוגה צדקו וצדקת אבותינו הקדושים ישמחנו במכתבו ונגילה ונשמחה בישועתו”. [1] leaf. Approx. 28X22 cm.  Varied tears, some of them affecting the text. Taping, stains and varied blemishes. Traces of a wax stamp, apparently of the Goren David (הרב מ....can be read).  It should be noted that the more well-known letters by him are from his later years. In them, he signed his name 'Aharon David'. The name Aharon was added to his name after he was gravely sick in 1862. This letter is earlier and he signed it only with the name he was given at birth, David.  Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Ulman (1792-1963) Av Beit Din of Makova and author of Sefer Yeri'ot Shlomo. One of the leading rabbis of Hungary and the Rav of many Hungarian rabbis. The son of Rabbi Shalom Charif, author of the Divrei Rash. In his youth, was his father's disicple. His first marriage was to the daughter of Rabbi Bunem Eiger of Mattersdorf, Rabbi Akiva Eiger's brother. After his marriage, he opened a yeshiva in Ansbach. In 1823, he was appointed Rav of Rendik and in 1826, as Av Beit Din of Makova, a position he held for almost forty years until his passing.  Rabbi Aharon David Deutsch (1812-1878) Av Beit Din of Yarmat (Füzesgyarmat ) and author of Sefer Goren David. Was a leading disciple of the Chatam Sofer and a leading Hungarian Rav. Studied at the yeshiva of the Gaon Rabbi Leib Gluga in Prague and later at the Chatam Sofer's yeshiva in Pressburg. The Chatam Sofer said of him that when Rabbi Aharon stands in prayer, he relies on the power of his prayer and that he was Mezuman Lechayei Olam Haba. Was renowned as a wonder-worker. When people came to the Rebbe of Sanz for a blessing, he would ask them why they were coming to him when they could ask the Gaon of Yarmat instead.
