Surprising! Letter Handwritten Entirely by the Jerusalem Tzaddik Rabbi Aryeh Levin using Superlatives to Describe the Lubavitcher Rebbe - Jerusalem, 1963 - Letter handwritten and signed by Rabbi Aryeh Levin, Avi HaAsirim (Father of the Prisoners) - Jerusalem, 1963. The letter was written to a resident of Jerusalem who was in America. In the letter, Rebbinu thanks the addressee for keeping his promise to keep him updated from abroad: ”יהי ה' עמו ויענה את שלומו ויצליחהו וישיבהו בקרוב למשפחתו היקרה ושבו בנים לגבולם”.  Rabbeinu also thanks him for mentioning him to the Lubavitcher Rebbe, whom he praises: ”נהניתי מאד ושמחתי בשמחת לבי וגילה נפשי מבשורתו כי נפקדתי אצל אדמו”ר מלובביץ שליט”א על ישראל הדרתו ותפארתו עד ביאת גו”צ [גואל צדק] ועד בכלל ובצילו ובזכות כל הצדיקים נחיה אין לשער גודל שמחתי”. Goodo verall condition.  The Jerusalem Tzaddik Rabbi Aryeh Levin (1885-1969) was the son of Rabbi Binyamin Beinush. He was Mashgiach at the Etz Chaim yeshiva in Jerusalem and one of the greatest figures of the city. He was known for his charity and became known as Avi HaAsirim or Rav HaAsirim for visiting prisoners every Shabbos for more than 25 years, even during the British Mandate. He studied at the Volozhin yeshiva under Rabbi Refael Shapira, and was received his Rabbinic Semicha from Rabbi Chaim Berlin. Upon the establishment of the State of Israel he established the yeshiva now named after him, Beit Aryeh. He was the father-in-law of the Gaon Rabbi Yosef Shalom Elyashiv and his descendants include Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky and Rabbi Yitzchak Zilberstein, Rav Kook of Tiberias and many others.
