Glosses Handwritten by the Gaon Rabbi Yosef Elmali'ach - the Copy of the Gaon Rabbi Chaim Berlin: Sefer Bnei Yosef - First Edition Livorno, 1793 - Sefer Bnei Yosef - Chidushim on the Shas tractates Bava Kama and Avodah Zarah -  by the Gaon Rabbi Yosef ben Shalom Hacohen Tanuji - the Press of Reb Eliezer Sadon - Livorno, 1793 - first edition.  On the leaves of the book there are two glosses (trimmed) handwritten by the famed Gaon Rabbi Yosef Elmali'ach, the author of Tokpo shel Yosef, signed with his initials: 'יא”ל ס”ט'. Additional Oriental signatures on the title page.  The copy of the famed Gaon Rabbi Chaim Berlin, the Rosh Yeshiva of Volozhin and Av Beit Din of Moscow and Jerusalem: ”חיים ברלין בהגאון אדמו”ר הנצי”ב זצ”ל מלפנים רב במאסקווא ור”מ בוואלוז'ין וכעת בירושלים עה”ק ת”ו”. An extremely rare book!!! [2], 64 leaves.  Ancient half-leather binding. Moth perforations to the margins. Good condition.  The Gaon Rabbi Yosef Elmali'ach (ca. 1740-1823) Av Beit Din of  Rabat and Gibraltar, author of the famed book Tokpo shel Yosef, which is a foundational book in Moroccan Psikah.   The Gaon Rabbi Chaim Berlin (1832–1912) was the eldest son of Maran the Natziv of Volozhin and a great contemporary Torah leader. He served as Rav and Av Beit Din of Kobryn, Moscow, and Yalta, and was known as a staunch defender of religious observance during a time of spiritual persecution in Russia. After his father’s passing, he briefly headed the Volozhin Yeshiva. He later immigrated to Eretz Yisrael, and following Rabbi Shmuel Salant's passing, was appointed the Ashkenazic Chief Rabbi of Jerusalem - although he humbly refused to accept the title officially. He was Rosh Yeshiva of Etz Chaim and was considered a pillar of the Old Yishuv in Jerusalem. Renowned for his humility, peaceful demeanor, and measured Psakim, he left a lasting imprint on his contemporaries and on religious leadership in Eretz Yisrael. He passed away in 1912 and was buried on the Mount of Olives.
