Yesod and Pedigreed - Knesset Hagedolah Yoreh Deah - Kushta, 1716 - Signature of the Gaon Rabbi Elyakim Getshlik Av Beit Din of Menheim - and Rabbi Ben Zion Ettlinger the Aruch Laner's Son - Yesod - first edition of Knesset Hagedolah - Chidushim and elucidations on Shulchan Aruch Yoreh Deah - by Rabbeinu Chaim Benveniste - the Press of the Mechokek Reb Yonah ben Yaakov of Zlozitz - Kushta, 1716 - first ediiton - Stefansky Sifrei Yesod 170.  Knesset Hagedolah: a Sefer Yesod of Halachic Psikah, the monumental work of Rabbeinu the Gaon Rabbi Chaim Benveniste Av Beit Din of Izmir. Following Halachic books frequently cite from the book including the Chofetz Chaim, who writes in his introduction to his Mishnah Berurah about the joy he had felt when he managed to obtain the book:  ”וגם עזרני ה' שהשגתי את הספר כנסת הגדולה על אורח חיים...”. Varied sections of the book were printed in different cities over many years until its completion, beginning with Livorno 1648 and ending with Kushta 1716.  Appearing on the title page of the book and on another leaf is the signature of the Gaon Rabbi Elyakim Getshlik Yaakov Alzentz, Av Beit Din of Menheim, a leading Ashkenazic Rav. At first served as Dayan of Menheim and later became the Av Beit Din of the town. Rabbeinu was the one who gave th efamed Gaon author of Aruch Laner his Semichah.  Appearing on the title page os the stamp of the Gaon Rabbi Ben Zion Ettlinger, the Aruch Laner's son בן ציון בלא”א מ”ו הרב מהור”ר יעקב עטטלינגער נר”ו, who was the editor of some of his father's writings.   He was the son-in-law of the philanthropist Reb Shemaryahu Zuckerman of Mogilev.  [1], 4-146 leaves.  Late binding.
