Fine Dedication Signed by the Publisher: Safah Berurah by the Author of the ibn Ezra - Furth, 1838 - Safah Berurah, ”by the glorious sage Rabbi Avraham...ibn Ezra... copied from an old manuscript in the library of Munich and published with an elucidation by.... Gavriel Hirsch Lippman”. Furth, 1838. 21, [3] pp. 52 leaves. Original binding with minor blemishes. Minor stains. Good overall condition. On verso of the back board, a leaf was mounted with a fine dedication handwritten by the book's publisher: ”אשריך רב עקיבא, גביר דור שר תעודות...”. We did not manage to find out who this Rabbi Akiva is. The dedication is signed by the publisher Rabbi Gavriel Naftali Hirsch Lippman: ”מאת המוציא והמבאר, הק' גבריאל נפתלי הירץ לבית ליפפמאנן, חונה פה ק”ק קיססינגען והמדינה”. On verso of the front board, a fine ex-libris of Rabbi Yitzchak Yosef Ben Zion Weinkopf , Rav and Dayan, Moreh Tzeddek of the Ashkenazic community of Amsterdam in the 1840s. He was one of the writers of the ”scientific commentary” on Hoshe'a, Yoek, Ovadya and Michah. Rabbi Gavriel Naftali Hirsch Lippman (1805-1864) Av Beit Din of Kissingen, a leading disciple of Rabbi Wolf Hamburg, the Rosh Yeshiva of Furth and a leading contemporary Ashkenazic Rav who frequently refers to this disciple of his in his books, praising him despite his young age. Published many of the Ibn Ezra's writings with elucidations.
