Auction 88 The 20th Chabad Auction for Chodesh HaGeulah
Dec 7, 2025
Bnei Brak, Israel

All items of this auction that were given directly by the Rebbe were thoroughly checked by the auction house to determine who received them from the Rebbe. For most of them, we received additional evidence such as a photograph taken when the item was received and varied authenticity tests.

The recipients' names were obscured in most of the items, at the request of their owners, and will be revealed to the buyers. Be advised, further questions about the items should be directed to the auction house until 24 hours before the auction. Entering a bid is binding with all that that entails. Thank you.

Item Overview

Description:

Rare: Miniature Tanya Printed in the Great Synagogue of Moscow with the Break of the Iron Curtain.
Likkutei Amarim Tanya, a Chassidic Sefer Yesod by Rabbi Shneur Zalman of Liadi, known as Baal HaTanya (after this work). Miniature edition printed in Moscow, the capital of the Soviet Union, in 1992, with the break of the Iron Curtain after many years during which the Jews of the country suffered greatly, especially the Chabad chassidim. Throughout the Communist rule the Rebbe refused to allow the printing of the Tanya in the USSR fearing that he would endanger the local Jews.

In Cheshvan 1991, during the Chalukah of dollar bills, the Rebbe suprisingly asked Rabbi Zalman Chanin and Rabbi Leibel Zeinitz to publish the Tanya in the USSR. This Tanya is the first one that was printed at the Great Synagogue of Moscow;  the place of printing was handwritten on the copy. It is interesting to note that this copy was given as a gift at the wedding of Yitzchak and Miriam Scheiner on the 26th of Adar II, 1992.

Fine original binding,   with embossments in Hebrew and Russian, minor blemishes. Good coverall ondition. Tanya edition #3999 .
