Published by Kehat Brooklyn New York, ”The eve of Asseret Yemei Teshuvah - 1968. [1], 14, 180-202, [1], V pp. Minor stains. Good overall condition.  Background In 1968, apparently following the miracles of the Six-Day-War in Israel and the subsequent spiritual awakening, the Rebbe began, in Hitva'aduyot and Igrot that were sent at the time, encouraging the study of Igeret Hakodesh of Sefer HaTanya. In one of his letters (Igrot Kodesh 26, p. 100), he wrote the following:  ”נוסף על מבצע תפילין קאך איך זיך (עוסק אני בלהט) גם כן בלימוד אגרת התשובה לרבנו הזקן...” . [In addition to the Mivtza Tefillin, I am passionately engaged in studying the Igeret Hateshuvah by Rabbeinu Hazaken...].  Rabbi Y.L. Gruner writes in his diary (from Beit Mashi'ach issue 44) that the Rebbe had told him: ”איך קען דאס שוין באלד אויף אויסענווייניק... [I almost know it by heart!].  In Elul of that year, the Rebbe requested that the Igeret be published as a Kuntres in itself, as a regular edition and as a pocket one for the convenience of those who wish to study it constantly. The Rebbe himself dedicated the printing of the booklet to the memory of his mother, the Rebbetzin Chanah - the following printed on the last page: ”לזכרון כבוד אמו הצדקנית הרבנית מרת חנה... [In memory of his pious mother the Rebbetzin Mrs. Chanah... this book was published by the Admor Shlita of Lubavitch].  In his diary, the secretary Y.L. Gruner (Beit Mashi'ach issue 44) wrote about the printing of this ediiton:  ”Tuesday Elul 24. After the Selichot... delivered the material for Igeret Hateshuvah stating that we need to make haste and print only what was marked and not add to it, Thursday Elul 26, after the morning Selichot... He asked what was being done with Igeret Hateshuvah... an exemplar copy of the pocket format edition was bought to him at night, and he asked: וואס זאגט דער עולם וועגן דעם, מיר איז דאך ניט קיין חילוק, איך קען דאס שוין באלד אויף אויסענווייניק, וואס זאגט דער עולם... ... Once when he spoke of the printing of Igeret Hateshuvah, he asked whether a binding is also planned and I answered positively and he said: צריכים להשתדל אז ס'זאל זיין א שיינע קאווער”.
