Letter by the Rebbe the Rayatz for the Needs of Holocaust Survivors in the DP Camps of Italy and with a Blessing for Passover - New York 1946 - Igeret Kodesh from Nissan 6, 1946, on the official stationery of the Rebbe the Rayatz from Beit Chayeinu 770, to Rabbi Aryeh Leib Gelman - President of the worldwide HaMizrachi Movement. The Rebbe the Rayatz asks for assistance for the upcoming Passover for Holocaust survivors in the DP camp in Rome and elsewhere in Italy. The Rebbe describes the requests he had received, noting that there is danger of ”Shvitat Achilah” since non-Kosher food for Chareidi Jews is as if there is no food at all: ”כי יש סכנה של ”שביתת אכילה” באשר מזון בלתי כשר ליהודים חרדים, הוא כאילו אין לו מזון כלל...”. The Rebbe continues to note that the visit of the Chief Rabbi, Rabbi Yitzchak Isaac Halevi Herzog, led to a religious awakening and increased the demand for religious activity: ”הביקור של הרב הראשי הרצוג (הגאון רבי יצחק אייזיק הלוי הרצוג) באיטליא, שהי' לא כבר, גרם התעוררות דתית והגדיל מספר הדרישות לצרכי הדת...”. The letter indicates the Rebbe's continuous activity for Bnei Yisrael; the Rebbe describes his activity which even included an appeal to the then USA President Harry Truman. The Rebbe end shi sletter with a blessing for a Kosher and happy Passover: ”הדו”ש ומברכו בחג כשר ושמח... [his handwritten signature”. 28X21.5 cm. Fold lines and filing holes. Good overall condition.
