Sefer Luchot Edut the Work that was Written to Defend Rabbeinu Yonasan Eibeschitz during the Amulet Polemic with Rabbeinu the Yavetz - First Edition Altona, 1755 - Sefer Luchot Edut, ”in which it is written that most of the sages of the generation... admitted that false accusations were made against the Rav the Gaon Rabbi Yonasan Eibeschitz Av Beis Din and Ram ...and all the writings that abuse him shall not be seen and found and shall be burned...”. First edition, the Press of Rabbi Aharon Katz, Altona - 1755. [12], 2-78 leaves. A polemic work containing letters and broadsides by rabbis and community leaders who supported Rabbeinu Rabbi Yonasan Eibeschitz after he was accused of being a Sabbatian by Rabbeinu the Yavetz - Rabbi Yaakov Emden. At the beginning of the book, a foreword by Rabbi Yonasan, describing the controversy. At its end, ”commentary on one amulet” with an illustration of the amulet and the Shemot Kodesh on it and a Drush ”I delivered when the dispute began on 23.2.1751...”. On leaf 71, a letter by the Gaon of Vilna to Rabbi Yonasan Eibeschitz. The Gaon of Vilna writes, among others: ”מי יתן לי אבר כיונה, אעופה ואשכנה לעשות שלום, שישתקע אש זרה ממחלוקת אשר לא כדת...”. Rabbi Yaakov Emden's response was printed approx. a year later in his books Shevirat Luchot HaOn and Sefer Vayakem Edut Beyaakov (Altona, 1756). Old binding, detached. Moth perforations and damage, slightly affecting the text. Stains and other minor blemishes. Leaf 62 was completed from another copy and is detached. Good-fair overall condition.
