Rare! First Time Auctioned: Ish Chayil, the History of the Gaon Rabbi Dov Berish Meisles Av Beis Din of Warsaw - Single Edition Krakow, 1871 - Thin, extremely rare booklet. ”Sefer Ish Chayil containing the history of the the Admor the Gaon  Rabbi Dov Berish Meisles, who was Rav of Warsaw until his passing, by Chaim Yehuda Engeltshik of Warsaw”. First and only edition, Krakow, 1871. 34, [1] pp. Stains and some tears along the edges. Good overall condition.  A rare work that was published in the year following the passing of Rabbeinu  Rabbi Dov Berish Meisles. Only few copies are known of in the world. The booklet is adorned with the approbation of the Gaon Rabbi Chaim Nosson Dembitzer Rosh Av Beis Din of Krakow.  At the beginning of the booklet, a list of subscribers from Krakow and Vienna, headed by the Gaon Rabbi Shimon Sofer Av Beis Din of Krakow - the Chasam Sofer's son, and his brother-in-law Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Spitzer Av Beis Din of Vienna and Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Meisles of Vienna - Rabbi Dov Berish Meisles' son.  On the back of the booklet, a (faded) handwritten dedication signed by Yaakov Zvi Kornreich.  The Gaon Rabbi Dov Berish Meisles - the Mahardam (1798-1870) the son of Rabbi Yitzchak Meisles author of the Chosen Yeshu'ot. A leading Polish Rav in the 19th century who was known as a rare combination of a great Talmud Chacham and brave public leader. Served as Rav of the communities of Krakow and Warsaw and worked tirelessly for protecting the rights of the Jews before the Austrian and Russian authorities. Was famed for his good relationship with the authorities, his efforts to prevent the forced recruitment of young Jewish men to the army and his efforts to protect Jewish cemeteries from destruction. Author of Chidushei Mahardam on the Rambam's Sefer Hamitzvot.
