Dozens of Lengthy Unpublished Glosses Handwritten by the Gaon Rabbi Joseph Jaffe of Salant and Manchester on Ashlei Ravravei Shulchan Aruch Yoreh Deah - Shapira Press, Zhytomyr 1865-1866 with the Approbation of the Admor Rabbi Aharon of Chernobyl - Sefer Ashlei Ravravei Shulchan Aruch Yoreh Deah, with Taz, Shach, Chavat Da'at, Levushei Serad and more, section I. Appearing in Hilchot Treifot and separately  in Hilchot Ta'arovot is the approbation of the Admor Rabbi Aharon of Chernobyl (appearing twice in this copy - in two separate sections) who describes the printer Rabbi Aryeh Leib Shapira as ”My Muflag in-law the son of Kedoshim” and ends with his blessing for peace and Parnasah: ”וה' יברך את כל ישראל בשלום ויתפרנסו מידו הרחבה אכי”ר”.  Printed by the rabbinic Aryeh Leib Shapira, the grandson of the Rav of Slavita in Zhytomir in 1866. On some of the title pages - 1865. Stains. Minor blemishes. Old binding, slightly worn, with a leather spine. Good overall condition.  Bibliographic description: Section I: Hilchot Shechita. Separate title page. Simanim 98-122. 42, 28, 47-67 leaves.  Throughout the book, more than twenty! glosses on the margis of the entire Shulchan Artuch handwritten by the Gaon Rabbi Joseph Jaffe Av Beit Din of Manchester. To the best of our knowledge, these glosses were never published. On verso of the front board, an English notation: Rav Joseph Jaffe and his address in Manchester.  The Gaon Rabbi Joseph Jaffe (1845-1898) one of the leading rabbis of Lithuania. Was bron in Vilkomir to Rabbi Moshe Jaffe, the Rav of Gorzhd. After serving as Rav of several Lithuanian communities including Salant and Gorzhd, he left Lithuania in 1893 and moved to England, where he served as Rav of Manchester. Rabbi Jaffe was known as fertile writer who left many important religious works including Yosef Bei'ur and Shut Pitchei Din. He passed away unexpectedly in Sivan 1898 and was succeeded as Rav of Manchester by his son-in-law the Gaon Rabbi Yisrael Yaakov Jaffe.
