”Since He is a Great and Important Man” Letter Handwritten and Signed by the Gaon Author of the Devar Avraham of Kovno about the Gaon Rabbi Zvi Hirsch Steinman - 1925 - ”It is appropriate to bring him close and respect him” - letter of recommendation by the famed gaon Rabbi Avraham Dober Kahana Shapira, the author of the Devar Avraham of Kovno - about the Gaon Rabbi Zvi Hirsch Steinman, the first Rav of Rechovot - Kovno, 1925.  The Devar Avraham addresses his letter to the members of the HaMizrachi Movement in Eretz Yisrae; with a request to help the Gaon Rav Rabbi Svi Hirsch Steinman - in those days, the Rav of Gorky, Russia. In Eretz Yisrael, Rav Steinman served as the Rav of Yavniel and later as the first Rav of Rechovot.  In his letter, the Devar Avraham writes fondly about Rav Zvi Hirsch: ”ידידי הרב הגאון... נוסע עם משפחתו להתיישב באה”ק, לכן הנני להכירו לפניכם לטובה, שהוא אדם גדול וחשוב מאד בכל הפרטים ויכול להביא ברכה בפעליו, ומן הראוי שיקרבוהו ויכבדוהו כערכו...”  [my friend the Gaon Rav... is travelling with his family to settle in Eretz Hakodesh, therefore I want to mention him to you favorably, since he is a great and important Man and could bring blessings with his actions, and it is appropriate to bring him close and respect him as he deserves...].  Enclosed is a letter by the Devar Avraham's son, who writes to the management of HaMizrachi that his father had sent him the letter to be given to them.  Official stationery.  14X22 cm.  Filing perforations. Good condition.  *** Rabbi Avraham Dober Shapira (1871-1943) the last Rav of the Kovna community, a leading contemporary Posek and a leader of Lithuanian Jewry. Son-in-law of the Gadol of Minsk, Rabbi Yerucham Yehuda Leib Perlman. His book Devar Avraham is well-known in the yeshiva world and among Poskim. He perished in the Holocaust.
