Hundreds of Glosses Handwritten by the Italian Geonim Rabbi Shneur Ibn Danan and Rabbi Pinchas Anav on the Sheets of a Complete and Rare Set of the Sefer Yesod Rav Alfas - First Edition of Shiltei Hagiborim Sabbioneta, 1554-1555 - Exalted discovery more than 250 years old! Hundreds of glosses!!! on Rav Alfas - the Rif, handwritten by the Gaon Rabbi Shneur Ibn Danan, one of the leading rabbis of Venice in the 17th century, and by the Gaon Rabbi Pinchas Anav who was a leading disciple of Rabbi Yitzchak Lampronti, the Pachad Yitzchak.  A complete and extremely rare set of Rav Alfas - the Rif, an important edition . ”Hilchot Rav Alfas... with all that is in previous Alfasi books... and we have added the Machlokot of Baalei Hatosafot and Maimon [the Rambam] and Semag and Tur and other Poskim...with the Rav Alfasi with some Dinim and Kushiyot and Teirutzim and Chidushei Rabbeinu Yeshaya Acharon known as Shiltei Hagiborim and in all three sections of the book... we have added on the Rishonim Hasagot by some sages... such as Baal HaItur, the Ravad, Rabbeinu Yonah, the Rosh... all born and grown by... Volume II: 160-398 leaves.  On leaf 396, a: The rhymes of the tombstone of Rabbi Yitzchak Alfasi by Rabbi Moshe Ibn Ezra.  54 leaves at the end of Section II include ”אילו הם סימני [קיצור] כל הדינים הנמצאים ברב אלפס מצויינים מבאלפא [!] ביתא, מסודרים להלכות על סדר המיימוני”; and  ”קיצור כל הדינים הנמצאים במרדכי מצויינים באלפא ביתא מסודרים להלכות על סדר המיימוני” - titled on the title page Chikur Dinim.  Stains and some tears along the edges of the leaves (partly slightlyu affecting several of the glosses). Some moth damage. Taping and some other minor blemishes. Matching bindings with leather spines. Good overall condition.  On the title pages, the handwritten signatures of the Gaon Rabbi Pinchas Anav and his brother and signatures of Rabbi Shneur Ibn Danan . Throughout the book, on the margins of the sheets, hundreds!!! of glosses, corrections and more, some of them lengthy, handwritten by Rabbi Shneur Ibn Danan and Rabbi Pinchas Chai Anav. Blessed is he who merits oublishing this precious Chidushim and enlighten the Torah and Halachah world with them.  *** Rabbi Shneur Ibn Danan, one of the prominent rabbis of Venice in the early 17th century. He was the son of Rabbi Abraham Ibn Danan, a member of a Moroccan family renowned for its illustrious rabbis in Morocco and later in Italy. This dual heritage is evident in his handwriting, which uniquely blends Sephardic-Moroccan script with the local Italian one. He was well-known as a close friend of the Gaon Rabbi Samuel Aboab, author of the Devar Shmuel, who consulted him extensively on Halachic matters and referred to him with rare expressions of admiration and profound deference. In addition to his Halachic responsa, he authored a the Seder Vidui LaCholeh, which was published in the book Dikdukah Shel Nefesh (Venice, 1685).Additional Chidushei Torah novellae by him have been published recently from manuscripts. Rabbi Shneur was a key figure in the struggle against the Sabbatean movement. In 1668, he signed the manifesto Zichron Livnei Yisrael against Nathan of Gaza and his sect of followers, alongside the Remez (Rabbi Mohe Zacuto) and Rabbi Shmuel Aboab. He was a member of the 'Shiva Ro’im' [Seven Shepherds] assembly of preeminent sages who interrogated Nathan of Gaza in Venice and secured from him a written commitment to obey the words of the Sages. His Halachic authority and firmness in this campaign established his status as one of the most prominent leaders of Italian Jewry during this turbulent era. See more: Kovetz Beit Aharon Veyisrael issue 44.  *** The Gaon Rabbi Pinchas Chai Anav (1693–1768) Rav and Av Beit Din of Ferrara, one of Italy's most prominent Jewish communities. He was the son of Rabbi Menachem of the 'Anavim' family - one of the four noble families of Jerusalem exiled by Titus to Rome during the destruction of the Second Temple (71 CE), who subsequently became the most influential leaders of Italian Jewry. He was also the son-in-law of the renowned Rav and physician, Rabbi Yaakov Tzahalon. As leading disciple of Rabbi Yitzchak Lampronti - whose monumental work, Pachad Yitzchak, frequently intorduces numerous responsa and teachings in this disicple's name.
