Rabbi Zvi Ashkenazi Av Beit Din and Ram of Amsterdam the Ashkenazic community, the son of the Rav Rabbi Yaakov of Vilna...”. The famed work by Rabbi Zvi Hirsch Ashkenazi, the father and Rav of Rabbi Yaakov Emden, one of the foremost Poskim who led the struggle against Shabtai Zvi and his disciples. An important SEfer Yesod.  First edition printed by Rabbi Shlomo Proops, 1712. Stefansky Yesod 304. [1], 127 leaves. Tear affecting the text of leaf 1. Moth perforations and damage. Stains and other minor blemishes. Some taping. Fine new binding. Good overall condition.  Ownership signatures and the title page:  ~ הגה”ק רבי ”שמואל העליר” אב”ד צפת. ~ ”שייך לברוך כהן אשכנזי”. ~ ”חנני אלקים בזה הספר הצעיר ישעי' בהרב המגיד מוהר”...???” On the upper part of 2 pages of the book, additional signatures with the same script with the name Yeshayah.  ~ ”מנחה שלוחה מאדוני אבי הרב המאה”ג [המאור הגדול] הק' ישעיה מליסקא?” possibly, the same aforementioned Rabbi Yeshayah. Throughout the book, several glosses, some of them handwritten by Rabbi Shmuel Heller and others apparently handwritten by Rabbi Yeshayah and possibly by an additional writer. Some of them are trimmed.  *** The Gaon Rabbi Shmuel Heller (1803-1884) was the Rav of Safed and a leader of the Ashkenazic community there for more than 40 years. He was the great-grandson of Rabbi Yom Tov Lipman Heller, author of the Tosfot Yom Tov, and his grandfather Rabbi Avraham Peretz was a follower of the Chozeh of Lublin. He immigrated to the Land of Israel and settled in Safed, becoming close to the Admor Rabbi Avraham Dov of Avritch (the Bat Ayin), whom he succeeded as Rav after his passing. He was considered a proficient healer using the flora of the country. He succeeded to rehabilitate Safed after its destruction by an earthquake. His grandson was the Admor of Toldot Aharon Rabbi Avraham Yitzhak Kahan.
