Extremely Rare! A Handwritten Leaf on Parchment with Rif and Halachot Gedolot - Eastern Countries the 12th/13th Century - Handwritten leaf on parchment, containing the Rif on Masechet Chulin and Halachot Gedolot Hilchot Shechitat Chulin in fine, orderly script. The script matches that of Eastern Countries in the 12th or 13th Century.  The manuscript was studied by the manuscript expert Rabbi Dr. Ezra Chwat - bibliographer of manuscripts of the Manuscript Department of the National Library in Jerusalem. According to his review:  ”The upper part of side A is Rif Chulin, its end (48a-b). Copies of Rif Chulin on parchment (which are not in Sephardic script) are extremely rare: of 168 Genizah copies, only copy 11 and copy 98 (and 3 additional copies in Sephardic script).  * Cambridge T.S. F1(2).73 | 89 45, A12-45, B35 | 11 * Cambridge 292, T-S AS 93 | 89 46, A10-3/ibid. 31-37 871 / 873 | 11 Also rare are Genizah copies of the Rif noting the division of the text not only ל'מתני' אלא גם ל”גמר[א]”. The rest of the manuscript is a ”compilation from the Talmud Vezavachta - compiled from Halachot Gedolot. We do not know of a copy combining the Rif and Halachot Gedolot since the first overshadowed the latter. Did this leaf come from the area of Persia? Proto-Yemen? We do not know. In any case, it is from the Eastern countries of the 12th-13th century”.  [1] leaf handwritten on parchment, written on both sides. Approx. 23X18 cm.
