Rare Letter Handwritten by the Gaon Rabbi Chaim Ozer Grodzinsky to the Author of the Seridei Esh - Nissan, 1929 - Extremely rare letter handwritten entirely (approx. 120 words) and signed by the Gaon Rabbi Chaim Ozer Grodzinsky . Vilna, Rosh Chodesh Nissan 1929.  The letter was sent to the Gaon Rabbi Yechiel Yaakov Weinberg, the author of Shut Seridei Esh. The content implies that Rav Weinberg had sent Rabbi Chaim Ozer a Kuntres. Rabbi Chaim Ozer apologizes for not yet having had the opportunity to study it properly. Nevertheless, he notes that upon a preliminary review, the arguments appear sound, and he promises that after the Passover, he will study the Kuntres in depth and send his response. The contents of the letter provide a vivid reflection of a leader of the generation's schedule during the days preceding Passover. Similar to Jewish leaders throughout the ages, who, on the eve of Passover, would close their books to occupy themselves with the needs of the community and the provision of Kimcha D'Pischa for the poor of Israel, so too was the Gaon Rabbi Chaim Ozer. Despite his exalted status, or perhaps because of it, he was immensely preoccupied with public matters and the various requirements of the holiday. Consequently, he did not find the opportunity to review even the writings of Gedolei Torah, including the Kuntres of the Seridei Esh, which was forced to wait until after the festival. The Gaon Rabbi Chaim Ozer writes:  ”לפני איזה ימים הגיעני קונטרסו... ואתמול הגיענו מכתבו הגלוי אשר יזרזנו להשיב מיד, אבל הטרדה רבה עלי... בימים האחרונים ממעלי הפסחא, וביחוד בשנה זו”. Rabbi Chaim Ozer ends his letter with an appropritae blessing:  ”ומברכו בברכת החג המקודש הבעל”ט כנפשו היקרה ונפש ידידו רצוף אהבה – חיים עוזר גראדזענסקי”. A minor tear to the edge of the fold, not affecting the text.  The Gaon Rabbi Chaim Ozer Grodzinsky [1863-1940], Av Beit Din of Vilna, leading contemporary Rav and leader of world Jewry. Studied in the Volozhin yeshiva with the Gaon Rabbi Chaim of Brisk. In 1885 he was appointed Rav of Vilna (although he was never its officially Rav since out of respect for HaGra, there was no official Rav of Vilna since his passing), president of the Moetzet Gedolei HaTorah who was considered the leader of Lithuanian Chareidi Jewry at the time in which great rabbis such as the Chafetz Chaim and Rabbi Chaim of Brisk lived, Worked for strengthening religion and establishing the yeshiva world, founding the Vaad Hayeshivot with the Chafetz Chaim.
