Blessings for Passover Handwritten by Maran the Steipler Addressed to His In-Law Rabbi Yosef Shalom Elyashiv on a Halachic Letter with Reference to Their Children Maran the Gaon Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky and His Wife the Rebbetzin Bat Sheva - 1963 - ”דרי”ש מבת שבע שתחי' ומר”ח וכל ב”ב שיחי'” -  Halachic letter regarding the separation of Terumah and Maasrot in the current era, by the Steipler to the Gaon Rabbi Shalom Yosef Elyashiv - with references to his daughter Bat Sheva and her husband Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky. Rabbeinu blesses his in-law for Passover: הנני העני מברך את הדר”ג שליט”א וכל הנלווים אליו לחוג את חג המצות בדיצות ויתברכו כולם בשפע ברכה והצלחה, וירא מנוחה, והיתה הרוחה...”.  Later he adds a lengthy response on the separation of Terumah and Maasrot on Shabbat for those who follow the Chazon Ish’s Minhag to separate from all food items, even that which has a Kashrut Mehuderet. ”ושאלתי כמה פעמים ע”ד החולים בבתי החולים... וכן הבנים שבאים ליו”ט אצל אביהם שאינו מדקדק בהפרשת תרו”מ ובחול הם מתקנים בעצמם מה שאוכלים, אבל בשבת מה יעשו” [I was asked a number of times by sick people in the hospitals…and by sons going home for Yom Tov to parents who are not so Medakdek in separating Terumot and Maasrot and who, on weekdays, do so, but what are they to do on Shabbat].  Rabbeinu establishes a Halachic definition for fruit purchased in our time: ”דבזמנינו אינו בגדר דמאי רק בגדר ספק ממש”!!! On the side of the letter, he sends regards from his daughter-in-law the Rebbetzin Bat Sheva and his son Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky: ”דרי”ש מבת שבע שתחי' ומר”ח וכל ב”ב שיחי'” Maran the Steipler’s admiration for his in-law Maran Rabbi Elyashiv is well known, and this is how he once said to a close friend: ”בירושלים יש את הרב אלישיב שיש לו דעת תורה בגלל שלא פסק פומיה מגירסא” . On the other hand, Rabbi Elyashiv was once asked why he did not travel to be a Sandak while the Steipler would go to every Brit to which he was invited: ”הסטייפלער אינו צריך שהגמרא תעמוד פתוחה מול עיניו, אין אצלו נפקא מינה אם גמרא פתוחה בפניו אם לא, בכל המצבים הוא לומד באותו עומק ועיון”  16X20 cm.  Fold lines.
