Lengthy Halachic Letter by the Gaon the Tzitz Eliezer - on the Mitzvah of Eating Matzah on All Days of Passover - Lengthy and important letter, on three large pages (more than 1000 words) handwritten and signed by the Gaon Rabbi Eliezer Yehuda Waldenberg Av Beit Din of Jerusalem and a leading Posek, author of the Shut Tzitz Eliezer . Adar II 22, 1967.  The letter is addressed to the Gaon Rabbi Yisrael Weltz, Rosh Av Beit Din of Budapest. It is a response to his Halachic question about the Halachic dispute whether there is a MItzvah to eat Matzah on all days of Passover or only on Leil Haseder.  In his response, the Tzitz Eliezer writes a wide and deep scholarly discussion and does not avoid disagreeing - gently and respectfully - with the words of the Maharsham of Berzan. The Tzitz Eliezer claims that the Maharsham had not sufficiently studied the words of Baal haroke'ach and therefore misunderstood him! Among others, the author refers to a question that was sent to the Maharsham about a certain place (which the Tzitz Eliezer refrains from mentioning its name), where the blessing ”על אכילת מצה”  was said before eating Matzah on the days of Chol HaMoed too - and not only on Leil Haseder as usual. Both the Maharsham and the Tzitz Eliezer firmly reject this custom.  The writer also describes another place (whose name too he does not state) where the blessing ”על אכילת מצה” was said on Pesach Sheini, on Iyar 15. Regarding this custom, he cites the words of the Gaon Malkiel Zvi Tennenbaum, the author of Shut Divrei malkiel, who wrote about this custom that ”יש לבטלם בחזקת היד”. The letter was printed in full in Shut Tzitz Eliezer, Section X, Siman 27, except for the last handwritten personal line, in which the writer addresses the health of the addressee, Rosh Av Beit Din of Budapest.  [3] large leaves. Enclosed is the original envelope.  Very good condition.  The Gaon Rabbi Eliezer Yehuda Waldenberg (1916-2007), author of the Shut Tzitz Eliezer, Shvitat Hayam [the laws of travelling by ship on shabbat] and Hilchot Medina, one of the foremost Poskim of the previous generation, known primarily due to his responsa and extensive knowledge of Halacha and medicine. Was considered the Rav of rabbis and corresponded with leading Poskim, who always tried to receive his opinion on complex Halachic matters. The Gaon Rabbi Yisrael Weltz (1887-1974) a disciple of the Shevet Sofer in Pressburg, Rosh Av Beit Din of Budapest during the Holocaust and later a Moreh Hora'ah in Jerusalem. Author of Shut Divrei Yisrael 3 sections. Was famed as a Matir Agunot. Was buried close to the gravesite of the Admor Rabbi Aharon of Belz.
