Original and Rare Photograph of the Gaon Rabbi Yehoshua Buksbaum Der Galanter Rov - ca. 1920 - Original and rare photograph of the Gaon Rabbi Yehoshua Buksbaum Av Beit Din of Galanta and one of the leading rabbis of Hungary before the Holocaust. Rabbeinu's photograph appears on an original postcard depicting the Rav's figure, apparently in his first days as Rav of Galanta (ca. 1920).  [1] postcard, 14X9 cm. Fold line to the lower right side with stains around it.  The Gaon Rabbi Yehoshua Buksbaum (1877-1944) Av Beit Din of Galanta and one of the leading spiritual leaders of Hungarian and Czechoslovakian Jewry between the two world wars. A leading disicple of the Dayan of Papa the Gaon Rabbi Moshe Yosef Hoffman, Rabbi Shmuel Rosenberg Av Beit Din of Unsdorf and Rabbi Mordechai Leib Winkler Av Beit Din of Mad. Served as Rav of Magendorf and Galanta. In Galanta, he established and headed one of the most glorious and largest yeshivas of Europe, which had hundreds of students and continued the Chasam Sofer's study tradition. The Rav was renowned not only for his Ge'onut and Harbatzat Torah, but also for serving as a father-figure for his thousands of disciples. He perished in Auschwitz with the members of his community and his disciples, encouraging and supporting them in their final moments.
