Handwritten Signature of the Wonder-Worker the Gaon Rabbi Aryeh Leibush of Stanislav Author of the Pnei Aryeh with Dozens of Handwritten Glosses: Shomer Emunim and Mevo Petachim - Zholkva, 1766 - Two ancient Kabbalistic books, foundational and important, bound together: Shomer Emunim and Mevo Petachim. By the Mekubal Rabbi Yosef Ergas, known after this book as the ”Baal Shomer Emunim Hakadmon”. Zholkva, 1766.  Rare and important second edition of the Kabbalistic Sefer Yesod. Has been auctioned only several times in the past. In the Rare Book Collection of the National Library.  Appearing at the top of the title pageis the famed handwritten signature of the Gaon Rabbi Aryeh Leibush of Stanislav, a leading contemporary wonder-worker, author of the Pnei Aryeh. According to tradition, at the time of his passing, an Amuda Denura was seen - which is appears only for one or two in a generation. The version of the signature: ”חנני ה' בזה הספר אריה ליבוש סגל”. On the sheets of both books there are dozens of Kabbalistic glosses [approx. a hundred and fifty lines!!], possibly by several writers; some of them apparently handwritten by the Pnei Aryeh. Their content has not been studied.  [1], 31; [2], 32-33, [8] leaves. Separate title pages for Mevo Petachim.  Good condiiton. Aging stains. Small tears to several leaves. New binding.  Approx. a hundred and fifty lines of handwritten glosses, most of them in Hebrew and some in a foreign language.  ***  The Gaon Rabbi Aryeh Leibush Horotiwtz, Av Beit Din of Stanislav and author of the Pnei Aryeh (1755-1840)  a contemporary legendary icon of Torah and Yirah. Was the son of Rabbi Elazar Horowitz, the Rav of Tshreshitz and Zoloshitz abd grandson of the Gaon Rabbi Yitzchak Halevi Horowitz who was known as Reb Itzikel Hamburger.  His rabbis : He received his early Torah from his father and later studied in the yeshiva of the famed Gaon Rabbi Yitzchak Charid of Sambor. He also studied under his uncle, the Gaon Rabbi Meshulam Igra of Tismenitz, who gave him his Hora'ah Semicha already at the age of twenty.  His rabbinic position : when he was only twenty four, he was called to serve as the Rav of Stanislav - by the instruction of the author of the Chavat Daat. He led his community there for sixty three years.  What Tzaddikei Hador said of him: Gedolei Hador, considered him a lofty figure. He was received with great respect by the Gaon of Vilna;   Rabbi Baruch of Mezhibuzh respected him so much that he intsructed to remove a dish from his table so as not to cause him to fail with his Chumrot; and the Chozeh of Lublin appealed to him with a request for a blessing!  Rabbi Meir of Premishlan sent the sick to him for a blessing and his approbation appears in the book Ateret Zvi by Rabbi Zvi Hirsch of Ziditchov .
