Rare Historical Item! Certificate for Purchasing a Letter of a Sefer Torah for the Soul of the Chofetz Chaim in the Year of His Passing, Signed by the Gaon Rabbi Chaim Ozer Grodzinsky - Vilna, 1934 - Most impressive color certificate for purschasing a letter of a Sefer Torah of Kelal Yisrael, written for the soul of the Cohen Gadol Me'echav Rabbi Yisrael Meir Hacohen author of the Chafetz Chaim and the Mishnah Berurah. The certificate bears the printed signature and an original ink-stamp (slightly faded) of Gedol Hador Maran the Gaon Rabbi Chaim Ozer Grodzinsky , whom Maran the Chofetz Chaim used to call ”Nessi Yisrael”. Vilna, Tamuz 13, 1934.  After the passing of Rabban shel Yisrael the Chofetz Chaim, the Vaad Hayeshivot headed by the Gaon Rabbi Chaim Ozer Grodzinsky initiated a project of writing a Sefer Torah in his memory by selling its letters. The revenues from the sale of letters were dedicated to supporting the yeshivas under the Vaad hayeshivot - an enterprise that was close to the heart of the Chofetz Chaim, who was one of its founders. The Sefer Torah was to be given to the syangogue in Radin.  This certificate documents the participation of Shmuel Kivelevitz , known as Shmuel Lubcher, who purcahsed the letter א׳ of the word “אשר” in verse 11 of chapter 2 of Parashat Vayikra of Sefer Vayikra. He was a leading student of the Lithuanian yeshivas and a leading disciple of the Mashgiach Rabbi Yerucham Leibovich of Mir. After he immigrated to Eretz Yisrael, he became close to the Rav of Brisk and worked as his emissary. Later, he served as the Rosh Yeshiva of Etz Chaim Antwerpen, Belgium and was one of the founders of the Beit hatalmud Yeshiva of Jerusalem.  The letter was chosen to commemorate his mother, אידלה, whose name begins with the letter א׳. His daughter, who was named אידלה after her grandmother, was married to the Gaon Rabbi Baruch Shmuel Deutsch.  Size of certificate: 22X17 cm. Quality paper, thick and colorful.  Very good condition. Fold lines. Small tears along the edges.
