Couple of Historical Document Signed by the Rav of Ponevezh and More: the Founding of the Idisher Lebn Newspaper in Lithuania - Kovno, 1922 - Couple of hisotrical founding document dealing with the establishment of the Chareidi newspaper Idisher Lebn (”אידישער לעבן”) in Lithuania after WWI. The documents reflect the perception of the leaders of the generation regarding the necessity of Chareidi media as an essential tool for protecting the Torah world, education and community at that time.  From the document: ”שמבלעדו אי אפשר לנו להמשיך את עבודתנו ולפתחה, להחזיק את עמדתנו - עמדת התורה והחינוך היהודי ולבצרה, בלעדו אי אפשר לנו בשום אופן לחיות חיים חברותיים, חיים מאורגנים...”. [Without which it is impossible for us to continue and develop our work, to maintain and fortify our position - the position of Torah and Jewish education. Without it, it is absolutely impossible for us to live an organized, communal life..]. This is sensational historic statement by leading Lithuanian rabbis revealing how the leaders of the generation perceived the power of journalism in shaping the soul of teh Chareidi public. In an era when the Torah world was fighting for its very survival - they understood that the battle was not being waged solely within the halls of the yeshivas, but also in the realms of the spirit, influence, and public opinion. This is, thus, not only a rare certificate; rather, it is t he founding document of modern Chareidi mass media! The signatories:  Maran the Gaon Rabbi Yosef Sglomo Kahaneman when he was Av Beit Din of Ponevezh , the future founder of the Poneveszh Yeshiva and leader of Chareidi Jewry after the Holocaust.  Maran the Gaon Rabbi Moshe Mordechai Epstein when he was Av Beit Din and Ram of Slabodka , the Rosh Yeshiva of Knesset Yisrael of Slabodka and Hebron, member of Moetzet Gedolei HaTorah and author of the Levush Mordechai.   The Gaon Rabbi Baruch Halevi Horowitz Av Beit Din of Alskot . the Rosh Yeshiva of Or Yisrael in Slabodka and head of the local UNiuon of Rabbis. Dr. Nachman Rachmilevich , one of the senior figures in the Lithuanian Government. Served as the Lithuanian Vice Minsiter of Finance, Commerce and Industry.  Rabbi Avraham Dov Poppel Av Beit Din of Mariampol (1869-1923) a polymath and public activist who was also a wonderful Darshan. Chairman of Agudat Yisrael and a representative of the Lithianian Parliament. Rabbi Moshe Yosef ben Rabbi A.T. Halevi Leviton an important Chareidi activist in Lithuania and America. In the 1930s immigrated to the USA, where he served as Rav in New York. In his old age, immigrated to Israel.  A rare combination representing one of the high moments in the history of Lithuanian Jewry: full cooperation between the Torah world, public leadership and political power, for protecting Chareidi Jewry.  [2] letters with almost identical content.
