Divrei Emet VaAhava - Rare Booklet in Honor of Franz Delitzsch - for Standing by the Jews during a Blood Libel - Vienna, 1884 - Divrei Emet VaAhava - an extremely rare booklet in honor of the Christian Professor Franz Delitzsch - for standing by the Jews during the Tiszaeszlár blood libel  - by Chaim Yaakov Ungar -  Vienna, 1884 Background: The Tiszaeszlár blood libel affair was one of the last blood libels in Europe, an affair that shocked Hungary in particular and Europe as a whole. Following its occurrence in 1882, an era when newspapers were already widespread and equality prevailed across large parts of the continent, Christian scholars also intervened in the affair, standing by the Jews and writing extensive articles to refute the despicable libel. One of those scholars was the Bible professor and missionary, Franz Delitzsch. Delitzsch was highly proficient in Jewish literature, though he was equally dedicated to missionary activities. Throughout his life, Delitzsch threw his full weight into the matter, confronting anti-Semites who spread the libel on every possible platform. He wrote scholarly articles to disprove the accusation and clashed with colleagues through both private and public letters. The last affair in which Delitzsch was involved before this booklet was written was the Tiszaeszlár blood libel, which teh author of the booklet describes at length.  The booklet is divided into two parts: the first reviews Delitzsch' life history and the second introduces poems in his memory.  Extremely rare! Has been auctioned only once in the past!!! 32 pp.  Late cardboard cover. Good condition.
