Rare! $100 Bill Given Directly by the Rebbe for Shenat Habinyan - Shevat 1989 - $100 Bill given directly by the Rebbe for Shenat Habinyan to one of the Rebbe's Shluchim in a distant country.  A bill issued om 1985. On it, the inscription:  ”ד' שבט תשמ”ט עבור שנת הבנין”. Very good overall condition.  The item was delivered by the recipient himself; enclosed is confirmation signed by him that he had received the bill directly from the Rebbe. Shenat Habinyan  In the annals of Beit Chayeinu, the year of 1989 is recorded as a historic year, designated by the Rebbe asShenat habinyan [The Year of Building]. The first signs began in the late months of 1988, following the passing of Rebbetzin Chaya Mushka. However, the matter took concrete form in a Sichah delivered by the Rebbe in Tishrei 1988 during a Yechidut with a group of Friends of Lubavitch, when the Rebbe turned to them and said: At the beginning of every year, one seeks a new and special direction and purpose, since at the beginning of the year new strength is granted, providing the energy and vitality to begin undertaking new endeavors. ”And therefore I allow myself, as an old friend (Alter Freund) who has met with you many times, to propose to you a special work plan for this year, in the hope that you will fulfill it with ultimate perfection. You will then prove that I am not an 'old friend' (Alter Freund), but a 'young friend' with youthful ideas and proposals. And the proposal is: that this year be named Shenat Habinyan, a year in which you will dedicate your best energy and resources to acquiring new buildings, especially buildings for Jewish matters, the dissemination of Judaism, and the spreading of the wellsprings outward: houses of Torah, Avodah and Gemilut Chassadim, Chabad Houses, and the like.” (For further elaboration, see Torat Menachem: Hitva'aduyot, 1989, Section I, p. 54). Later that same year, the Rebbe expressed his desire to participate with his Shluchim in the symbolic amount of one hundred dollars. This contribution was granted via check to those who reported on their activities. In Crown Heights, the checks were distributed by the Secretariat; in Israel, by Rabbi Ephraim Wolff; and in other countries, Shluchim received the contribution in cash.
