Pedigreed Copy with Handwritten Chidushim: Tzemach Hashem Lazvi - First Edition Printed by Rabbi Yisrael Bak - Berditchev, 1818 - Sefer Tzemach Hashem Lazvi, Mamrei Chassidut on Seder Parashiyot HaTorah by Rabbi Zvi Hirsch of Nadvorna, a leading Admor of the second-third generation of the Chassidut Movement and a foremost disciple of the Maggid of Mezeritch. Printed by thefamed Chassid Rabbi Yisrael Bak - Berditchev, ca. 1818. First edition.  This is a Chassidic Sefer Yesod which shaped the doctrine of Chassidut at its onset. In his youth, the author, Rabbi Zvi Hirsch of Nadvorna (1740-1802), followed the Baal Shem Tov and later was  a a foremost disciple of the Maggid of Mezeritch and Rabbi Yechiel Michl of Zlotchov, who said of him that he was the foremost of his disciples and the Eliyahu Hanavi desired his closeness.   His influence on the Chassidic world was great. Among his disciples were founders of many Chassidic dynasties includi9ng Rabbi Menahcem Mendel of Kosov, Rabbi Zvi Hirsch of Ziditchov and Rabbi Avraham David of Butchach. Sefer Tzemach Hashem Lazvi became one of the most studied Chassidic books and many Tzaddikim praised its virtue.  This first edition is important and sought-after and is one of the cornerstones of early Chassidic literature.  The book was printed by Rabbi Yisrael Bak, one of the most important and famed printers in the history of Hebrew Press and was one of the first books he printed. Ultimately, he was the first Hebrew printer in Safed and Jerusalem and was famed for the quality of the books hge printed.  Stefansky Chassidut #500. [2], 28; 138 leaves. 21 cm. Bluish paper. Ancient leather binding, restored with a new embossed spine. Professional restored edges of title page and the three last leaves.  A tear to the lower corner of leaf 27 - affecting some letters. Some moth perforations. Stains and other minor blemishes. Good overall condition.  Pedigreed copy At the top of the flyleaf, a handwritten notation: ”זה הספר שייך להרב דק' מאניסטרישץ” - referring to Rabbi Nachman Zeev Auerbach of Monstritz (ca. 1790-1855) the brother-in-law of Rabbi Nosson of Breslov, a disicple of Rabbi Yitzchak of Radvil, the son of the Maggid of Zlotchov. Rabbi Nachman was the first owner of the book.  Many stamps of his son, Rabbi Shlomo Aharon Birenbaum  (Rabbi Shlomo Aharon Auerbach who also used the surname Birenbaum)(1825-1893) Rav and Maggid Meisharim of Boyan. Author of Sefer Tiferet Shlomo on the Torah and Moadim. He married the granddaughter of the author of this book and refers to him several times in his book Tiferet Shlomo on Bereshit: ”בספר צמח ה' לצבי מן כבוד אדוני חותני זקני הרב הצדיק אספקלריא המאירה וכו' מוה' צבי זצוקללה”ה מ”ק נדבורנא”. On verso of this leaf, a handwritten notation:  ”זה הספר נתן לי אבי... נתן הרב הצדיק ר' שלמה אהרן לר' פייבוש בירענבוים”. On a taping oo the title page, there is an ancient signature: ”הק' אלימלך...”, which  we did not manage to decipher. Additional signatures of Aharon Maggid and additional faded stamps.  On verso of the title page, alengthy handwritten notation, ending with a signature (apparently by a different writer): ”דברי הצעיר אברהם דובער...” dated to 1851.  On the margins of leaf 32, an ancient faded gloss not studied.
