Unique! Rare Shetar Tena'im of the Gaon Rabbi Yitzchak Epstein Handwritten Entirely by the Tzaddik Rabbi Aryeh Levin - Jerusalem, 1941 - Unique and rare item: ShetarTena'im handwritten entirely by the famed Jerusalem Tzaddik Rabbi Aryeh Levin - the Rav of the Prisoners, one of the leading Anshei Chessed of recent generations. Jerusalem, 1941.  This is an extraordinary personal and historical document, handwritten with the pearly, precise and orderly script of Rabbi Aryeh Levin. The document contains the version of a Shetar Tenaim for a wedding. All the lines of the document were handwritten by the Jerusalem Tzadik.  Such documents - which are not printed forms or official papers only, but were handwritten entirely by Gedolei Yisrael - are extremely rare. The uniqueness of this item is amplified by the fact that the entire version of the Shetar, including all its Halachic and practical details, were handwritten by Rabbi Aryeh Levin himself.  The script is impressively beautiful: tiny letters, uniform and pearly, indicating the order, precisio and patience characterizing the writer. The format and content both reflect the noble figure of the Jerusalem Tzaddik.  The document was written in 1941 - in the midst of WWII, when the Jewish world was facing one of the most difficult periods in its history. Precisely in this reality of destruction and uncertainty, a document dealing with building a Jewish home was written.  It is only symbolic that when two orphans from Jerusalem become engaged, who else but the Rav of the Prisoners, who dedicated his life to caring for orphans, widows, and every oppressed soul, would conduct their celebration and personally write their Shetar Tena'im, like a loving father accompanying the people of Jerusalem through the most important moments of their lives. The document was written for the engagement of Yitzchak ben Avraham Yoel Halevi and Tamar, whose father, Rabbi Noah, was murdered in the 1929 Riots in Hebron.  The bridegroom, who is titled in this document as ”בחור מופלג”, indeed became an important Talmid Chacham: the Gaon Rabbi Yitzchak Epstein, Dayan of the Rabbinic Beit Din of Tel Aviv and one of the editors of the Talmudic encyclopedia.  [1] lare leaf, double, 26X44 cm. Handwritten entirely by Rabbi Aryeh Levin.  Good overall condition.  *** The Jerusalem Tzaddik Rabbi Aryeh Levin (1885-1969) the son of Rabbi Binyamin Beinush. He was Mashgiach at the Etz Chaim yeshiva in Jerusalem and one of the greatest figures of the city. He was known for his charity and became known as Father of the Priosners or Rav of the Prisoners for visiting prisoners every Shabbos for more than 25 years, since the British Mandate. He studied at the Volozhin yeshiva under Rabbi Refael Shapira, and received his Rabbinic Semicha from Rabbi Chaim Berlin. Upon the establishment of the State of Israel he established the yeshiva now named after him, Beit Aryeh. Rabbeinu was the father-in-law of the Gaon Rabbi Yosef Shalom Elyashiv and his descendants include Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky and Rabbi Yitzchak Zilberstein, Rav Kook of Tiberias and many others. Many stories were told about his virtues and many deeds of charity. His last request was not to be eulogized.
