Segulah Book - Or Layesharim - First Edition Prague, 1784 - the Book that Caused the Noda BiYehuda to Recant His Objection to the Saying of Leshem Yichud - ”והמחזיק בידו למהר לקנות הספרים ממנו זכות הגאון יעמוד לו להניח ברכה בביתו ובגבולו וה' יברך חילו”. (From the approbation by the Noda BiYehuda) Sefer Or Layesharim, collection of sermons and elucidations on Mamarei Chazal and Midrashim, by the Gaon Rabbi Zerach Eidlitz, a leading sage of Prague and contemporary of the Noda BiYehuda. Title page with some red lettering. The Press of Johann Joseph Tisbach, Prague, 1784. First edition.  With an approbation by the Noda BiYehuda praising the author. At the end of the approbation, a blessing to the purchasers of the book by merit of its author: ”...והמחזיק בידו למהר לקנות הספרים ממנו, זכות הגאון יעמוד לו להניח ברכה בביתו ובגבולו וה' יברך חילו”. The Noda BiYehuda was known for his sharp objection to the saying of the version of Leshem Yichud, a custom that spread under the influence of Chassidut and Kabbalah. In his book (Shut Noda BiYehuda Mahadura Kama, X Siman 93), he explains his objection by stating, among others, that common people do not fully understand the Kabbalistic significance and there is a spiritual danger of errors in pronouncing the names and of Kitzutz Baneti'ot.  Surprisingly, in the first Drush of Or Layesharim, Rabbi Eidlitz discusses at length the matter of saying Leshem Yichud before observing a Mitzvah, justifying it and introducing a Kabbalistic reasoning (to prevent the Sitra Achta from abducting the Mitzvot). This raises the question of how the Noda BiYehuda gave such an enthusiastic approbation to the book and its author despite its author's support of saying Leshem Yichud? In the name of the Admor Rabbi Yoel Teitelbaum, it is said that appraently, after Rabbi Zerach's reasoning, the Noda BiYehuda recanted his objection! [1], 98, [3] leaves. 20 cm. New leather binding. Open tears to the corners of the title page, not affecting the text.  *** The author the Gaon Rabbi Zerach Eidlitz (1725-ca. 1789) a leading Dayan, Rav and Marbitz Torah of Prague in the days of the Noda BiYehuda. Was famed as a wonderous Darshan to whom even the Noda BiYehuda came to listen. He dedicated his life to teach and educate students. On his tombstone it was written that he taught students for forty straight years.
