Important Letter Handwritten and Signed by the Gaon of Shanloy - Addressed to the Mekubal Rabbi Asher Zelig Margaliot - Shamloy, 1929 - ונשמע ונבשר איש את אחיו אך טוב סלה - fascinating letter with a blessing for the New Year - handwritten and signed by the Gaon Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Ehrenreich Av Beit Din of Shamloy - addressed to the Jerusalem Mekubal Rabbi Asher Zelig Margaliot - Shamloy, 1929.  The letter has fascianting and important content. At its beginning, Rabbeinu notes that he sent a lengthy letter with Divrei Torah to the Saba Kaddisha Rabbi Shlomo Eliezer Alfandri ”זה שלשה שבועות בעת אשר הייתי בין ההרים לשאוב רוח צח ולהנפש מעט ערכתי מכתב ארוך בד”ת להס”ק מהרש”א שליט”א...”. Later, he writes that he was shocked to hear the rumors about the 1929 Riots, asking Rabbi Asher Zelig to update him and write him the precise details since he cannot believe the newspapers... ”והנה מאז שמענו מהנעשה באה”ק שנהרגו חסידי עליון העליון ינקום דם עבדיו השפוך במהרה... וימחול כת”ה להודיענו הכל מבואר כי העלים כת”ע לא ידעתי אם אמת אתם...” .  Rabbeinu also asks him: ”גם יודיענו כי שמעתי שהס”ק המליך את כ”ת לשרתו ולהיות בביתו....”. At the end of his letter, Rabbeinu writes him warm blessing for the New Year: ”שנזכה לשנת גאולה וישועה בכל העניינים בכלל ובפרט ונשמע ונבשר איש את אחיו אך טוב סלה”. *** The Gaon Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Ehrenreich (1863-1944) Av Beit Din of Shamloy and author of Shut Lechem Shlomo. A Gaon, Chassid and Mekubal, one of the leading rabbis of Hungary, a leading Chassid of the Admor author of the Kedushat Yom Tov of Sighet and an admirer of his son the Admor Rabbi Yoel of Satmar, who, like him, sharply objected to Zionism and Agudat Yisrael. Yet, he was also known for his love of Eretz Yisrael and his community sent the largest donations to Eretz Yisrael. During the Holocaust, he could escape to Romania yet refused to do so, saying he now had a chance to observe the Mitzvah of Kiddush Hashem. He perished in Auschwitz with most of his family.
