Never Auctioned: Large Shanah Tovah Card from the Slabodka Yeshiva on a Graduation Picture of Its Rabbis and Students - Slabodka, Elul 1929 - Rare historical item - greeting card for the New Year that was sent to the supporters of the ”Mother of Yeshivas” in Lithuania - the Slabodka Yeshiva. With a blessing for the New Year by the Rosh Yeshiva the Gaon Rabbi Yitzchak Isaac Scher. Elul, 1929. To th ebest of our knowledge, this item was never auctioned.  On one side of the card, there are blessings by Rabbi Yitzchak Isaac Sher; on its verso, a graduation picture featuring the Rashei Yeshiva, Ramim and Mashgichim: Rabbi Avraham Grodzinsky, Rabbi Yitzchak Isaac Sher, Rabbi Baruch Halevi Horowitz, Rabbi Dov Zvi Halevi and Rabbi Yaakov Shlomo Horowitz, alongside dozens of yeshiva students.  The Slabodka Yeshiva, known as the ”Mother of Yeshivas, ” was in those years one of the most vital centers of the Lithuanian Torah world and the crucible for an entire generation of Gedolei Torah, Rosh Yeshivas, and leaders of the Orthodox Jewish world. This greeting card, sent to supporters of the yeshiva at the end of 1929, preserves a rare historical moment, frozen in time - capturing the Lithuanian yeshiva world on the eve of destruction, as reflected in the Slabodka Yeshiva in 1929. Beneath the photograph appears the name of the individual pictured. These names have not been studied by us; apparently, a great number of them were murdered in the terrible Holocaust that befell European Jewry. Among the survivors, however, are unquestionably future leaders of the next generation's yeshiva world, most of them students of Slabodka Yeshiva, the Mother of Yeshivas in Lithuania at the time and the forge of the nation's great figures, which produced the leading Gedolei Hador of subsequent generations. This is a rare document from the Golden Age of the Slabodka Yeshiva - a Shanah Tovah greeting sent by the yeshiva to its supporters with a graduation photograph commemorating its rabbis and students.  [1] leaf of thick cardboard. Approx. 12X15 cm.  Good overall condition.  *** The Gaon Rabbi Yitzchak Isaac Scher (1875-1942) one of the leading Rosh Yeshivas in his generations and one of the leaders of the Gadlut HaAdam school of the Mussar Movement. Was the son-in-law of the Saba of Slabodka and a disicple of the Gaon Rabbi Baruch Ber Leibovich, the author of the Birkat Shmuel. Served as the Rosh Yeshiva of Slabodka in Kovno. After the Holocaust, was one of the founders of the yeshiva in Bnei Berak. His granddaughter, the daughter of his son the Gaon Rabbi Yosef Sher who perished in the Holocaust, married Maran the Gaon Rabbi Dov Landau Shlita, the Rosh Yeshiva of Slabodka.
