Rare Letter of Blessings by the Rosh Yeshiva of Slabodka the Gaon Rabbi Yitzchak Isaac Scher to the Rosh Yeshiva of Montreux, Switzerland - Bnei Berak, 1951 - ”מנהג זה בצרפת, כל מי שיש לו חולה מבקש פני הרב התופס ישיבה שיברך אותו”. (Nimukei Yosef on Masechet Bava Batra) Rare aerogram with wonderful blessings handwritten by the Gaon Rabbi Yitzchak Isaac Scher, the Rosh Yehsiva of Slabodka before the Holocaust and it re-founder in Israel, to his friend, the Gaon Rabbi Yerachmiel Eliyahu Botchko the Rosh Yeshiva of Montreux, Switzerland - Bnei Berak, 1951.  The letter was sent after the Holocaust, after the Lithuanian Torah world had gone up in flames. Rabbi Isaac Scher, who was in Switzerland for medicinal reasons when the war outbroke, returned to Eretz Yisrael and re-established the Slabodka Yeshiva in Bnei Berak, continuing the glorious chain that was harshly broken in Europe.  The letter is addressed to his friend, the Gaon Rabbi Yerachmiel Eliyahu Botchko the Rosh Yeshiva of Montreux, Switzerland. During the Holocaust, the Montreux Yeshiva became a haven for Talmidei Chachamim and Gedolei Torah including the Gaon Rabbi Aharon Yehuda Leib Shteinman, who eventually became the leader of the Torah world in Israel.  In his letter, Rabbi Isaac send his friends warm blessing for the New Year:  ”תתברכו בגמר חתימה טובה בספרן של צדיקים גמורים לאלתר לחיים טובים ומאושרים בתורה ובגדולה באושר ובעושר והצלחה רבה בהרבצת תורה... לשנת גאולה וישועה ונקבל פני המשיח במהרה”. The letter also refers to the family of both friends: Rabbi Botchko's sons, ”מוהרר”מ והר”ר דוד”, and Rabbi Scher's son-in-law, ”חתני הגנ”י [=הגאון נרו יאיר - כנראה הכוונה להגר”מ שולמן] שעודנו בארה”ב יצליחהו השי”ת”. This is a rare letter handwritten by a foremost Rosh Yeshiva, with warm blessings for the New Year. This letter is a link in the chain of the Torah world, commemorating the Torah world that was destroyed in the Holocaust and its revival in the following years: a personal letter between two of its leaders with blessings of Torah, wealth, Geulah and Yeshuah.  [1] aerogram. Approx. 30 cm.  Handwritten by Rabbi Scher.  Stains and fold lines.   *** The Gaon Rabbi Yitzchak Isaac Scher (1875-1942) one of the leading Rosh Yeshivas in his generations and one of the leaders of the Gadlut HaAdam school of the Mussar Movement. Was the son-in-law of the Saba of Slabodka and a disicple of the Gaon Rabbi Baruch Ber Leibovich, the author of the Birkat Shmuel. Served as the Rosh Yeshiva of Slabodka in Kovno. After the Holocaust, was one of the founders of the yeshiva in Bnei Berak. His granddaughter, the daughter of his son the Gaon Rabbi Yosef Sher who perished in the Holocaust, married Maran the Gaon Rabbi Dov Landau Shlita, the Rosh Yeshiva of Slabodka.  The addressee, the Gaon Rabbi Yerachmiel Eliyahu Botchko (1888-1956) the founder and Rosh Yeshiva of the Etz Chaim Yeshiva of Montreux, Switzerland. A disipcle of the Saba of Novhardok. At the age of 23, he married the pious Mrs. Rivkah Sternbuch of Switzerland. Not wanting to earn their living from the Torah, the famlly engaged in trade.
