Rare! Copy of the Eldest Son of the Author the Gaon Rabbi Yaakovka: Tziyun Lenefesh Chayah (Tzalach) - First Edition in the Author's Lifetime Prague, 1783 - ״בני הרב הגדול החכם השלם מו״ה יעקבקא סג״ל״ (Noda BiYehuda Even HaEzer Siman 53). Sefer Tziyun Lenefesh Chayah known also as Tzalach, on Masechet Pesachim, Sefer Yesod on the Shas, by Gedol Hador Rabbi Yechezkel Landau, the Noda BIYehuda, whom despite his objection to Chassidut, the Baal Shem Tov was his Shamash, stating that a third of the world exists by his merit. First edition, Prague, 1783. Stefansky Sifrei Yesod #79.  This is a most pedigreed copy, printed in the author's lifetime, bearing the owenrship signature of his eldest son and disciple, the Gaon Rabbi Yaakovka Segal Landau, who discussed Halachah with his father and whose Divrei Torah were published in his father's books [see below]. His handwritten signature appears at the top of the title page:  ”יעקבקא בהגאון המח'[בר] צל”ח ונודע ביהודה” A shiver runs through the body at the mere thought of this sacred, personal copy, in which the author’s eldest son and leading disciple, the Gaon Rabbi Yaakovka Segal Landau, one of Geonei Hador, pored over continuously. One can almost picture him holding this book and entering the room of his illustrious father, the Noda BiYehuda, with it, debating his words, raising objections, offering remarks, and together delving deep into the teachings of Gedol Hador. The knowledge that this book passed through the Rabbi Yaakovka's hands and undoubtedly accompanied him on numerous occasions to his great father lends every single page within it an aura of sanctity and ancient grandeur.  123, [1] leaves. Half-leather binding, apparently original, worn. Handwritten notations and a gloss in Eastern script.  Fair-good condition. Marks of usage on every leaf. Slight wear to the lower corners of some leaves, as a result of turning the pages, not affecting the text. Moth perforations and burrows, slightly affecting the text.  *** The Gaon Rabbi Yaakovka Segal Landau (ca. 1750-1822), the eldest son of Rabbeinu Hagadol Rabbi Yechezkel Segal Landau, author of the Noda BiYehuda, was a foremost Gaon and Talmid Chacham. He lived in Brody, where he was famed as a sharp and knowledgeable Gaon. He married the daughter of the Gaon Rabbi Itzikel Hamburger who was one of the leaders of the famed Kloiz of Brody.  Rabbi Yaakovka corresponded with his father and brother, the Gaon Rabbi Shmuel Segal Landau, the Rav of Prague, on Halachic matters, as indicated by his  Responsa and Chidushim, some of which were published in the Mahadura Tanyana of the Noda BiYehuda.  Two of his Responsa appearing in the book (Orach Chaim Siman 55 and 135) end with the words: ״דברי אחיך הד״ש, הק׳ יעקבקא סג״ל לנדא״. The Noda BiYehuda (Even HaEzer Siman 53), writes of his son: ״בני הרב הגדול החכם השלם מו״ה יעקבקא סג״ל״.  In a scholarly Responsum by Rabbi Yaakovka (Even HaEzer Siman 137), he states that offered his Chidush to his illustrious father:  ”והאמת אגיד ולא אכחד כי בהעלות דברי אלה לפני אאמ״ו הגאון זצוק״ל לא עלו לרצון לפניו״ , indicating the deep Halachic Masa Umatan between father and son.  At the beginning of a Responsum he wrote from Brody to his brother Shmue (Yoreh Deah Siman 54), it is written: ״מהרב המאה״ג החריף ובקי המפורסם מהור״ר יעקבקא סג״ל לנדא נ״י מק״ק בראד. בנו הגדול של הגאון המחבר ז״ל״. Among others, he refers to a Chidush he told his father when he was young and the Noda BiYehuda refers to it in his Tzalach.  Rabbi Yaakovka authored a special bibliographic work: Kuntres Divrei Yedidut, which was published at the beginning of Sefer Noda BiYehuda Mahadura Tanyana. This is one of the initial and important sources for the biography of the Noda BiYehuda, describing his personality, customs and doctrine.
