Size: 26.7 × 36.2 cm. Condition: very good and structurally sound; natural age craquelure, light abrasions and signs of wear along the perimeter and at the points of contact with the frame. Georg Emil Libert (1820–1908) was a Danish painter and graphic artist, a landscape specialist. In the 1840s he studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts under Johan Ludwig Lund; in the 1850s he travelled in Germany and Switzerland and exhibited in Copenhagen and Vienna. The artist’s works are held in: Statens Museum for Kunst, Copenhagen; The Thorvaldsens Museum; The National Gallery of Art, USA; as well as in other museum and private collections. Møns Klint are spectacular six‑kilometre‑long chalk cliffs rising 120–128 metres above the Baltic Sea on the Danish island of Møn. Since July 2025 the site has been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, renowned for its unique glaciotectonic landscape, beech forests, rare orchids and the possibility of finding fossils along the shore. “Summer Spire” (Sommerspiret) is the name of a famous rock, one of the highest points (about 100 metres) of the Møns Klint chalk cliffs in Denmark, depicted by Georg Emil Libert in his 1846 painting. In Danish, sommer means “summer” and spir means “spire” or “peak”.
