Condition: good; cardboard flat, without significant deformations, paint layer stable with light age‑related signs of wear, without heavy overpainting or intrusive restoration. In the painting, a figure in a long garment appears at the threshold of a rocky ravine amid a glowing meadow of flowers; the space is transformed into a fairy‑tale, mythological landscape, executed with refined line and shimmering tempera. The motif of a solitary female figure approaching a magic flower echoes the tale of “The Scarlet Flower” and at the same time is rooted in Milioti’s broader symbolist repertoire of fairy‑tale themes. The decorative treatment, fantastical landscape and image of the “wonderful flower” directly derive from the poetics of the Blue Rose and Mir Iskusstva circles, where the artist’s individual symbolist language was formed; by 1929 he develops this complex of images in a mature, intimate manner. Vasily Milioti (1875–1943) was one of the key masters of Russian Symbolism and Art Nouveau, a member of the Moscow Society of Artists, the Mir Iskusstva circle and the Blue Rose group. His works are held in the collections of: The State Tretyakov Gallery; The State Russian Museum; The Tchaikovsky History and Art Museum; The Nizhny Novgorod State Art Museum; major regional museums and are included in state museum catalogues.
