[Expert Examination. Academic Landscape.] Rural Landscape with Cows, anonymous, Holland. Last third of the 19th century (1870s). The work belongs to the Dutch school of painting and has antique and collectors’ value; Grabar All‑Russian Art Research and Restoration Centre. Canvas on original wooden stretcher, oil. Size: 64 × 107.5 cm. Condition: very good, close to excellent, structurally sound; even natural craquelure across the surface, signs of age and light abrasions. The painting is executed at a high professional level, with impeccable linear and aerial perspective: the space unfolds from a dense foreground to a sunlit distance without loss of unity or proper scale of the figures. The precise sense of time of day and the soft distribution of light and shadow create a clear, harmonious atmosphere typical of the mature Dutch landscape school of the second half of the 19th century. A particular merit of the work is the fine, varied rendering of textures: foliage, brickwork, smooth water with reflections and plastically modelled animals demonstrate confident command of the medium and solid academic training. The painting combines detail with lively brushwork: light and movement are palpable in the strokes, while the surface remains coherent and controlled. The colour scheme is built on complex greens, ochres and warm browns with subtle transitions into bluish veils in the distance, lending the landscape softness and a noble resonance. Light structures the composition, emphasising the volume of trees and architecture and binding the individual motifs into a single, carefully considered scene.
