Pia Beatrice Schutzmann (born 6 August 1940 in Bergamo , Italy ) is a Danish painter, graphic artist and sculptor. Pia Schutzmann began her training as a graphic artist at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 1970 at the age of 30 under Palle Nielsen . Her etchings are naturalistic and often depict close-up objects in a light line and shading technique. The works reveal in the form of still lifes and interiors similar to artists such as Giorgio Morandi and Vilhelm Hammershøi . In the early 1980s she began drawing portraits with pencil. One example is Queen Ingrid's portrait. During a stay in New York in the late 1980s she tried out several graphic techniques, such as zincography and lithography and the large rubbing pictures that she made on Japanese paper, the motifs were structures from walls, sidewalks and streets.
