Monumental Clock ”The Awakening of Love” – Bronze and Marble – Hour and Half-Hour Chime – Signed Pelviosse Hours 56 cm - This imposing mantel clock represents a peak of French decorative art from the late 19th century. The sculptural work in patinated bronze, resting on a thick slab of veined marble, narrates the allegory of time awakened by love. Sculpture: The neoclassical female figure in bronze dominates the composition with a languid pose, contrasted by the vivacity of the gilded putto who seems to regulate the mechanism. Base and Signature: The marble base is finished with bronze top feet and a central chiseled frieze. The front plaque bears the author's signature ”PELVIOSSE”. Mechanical Features and Chime: Movement: Period pendulum mechanism with anchor escapement, characterized by high precision and reliability. Chime Complication: The movement is equipped with a chime on a bell that clearly strikes the hours and half-hours, a valuable technical feature for the period. Winding System: Manual winding with double spring (one for time and one for chime) via original butterfly key, here curiously held by the winged putto. Dial: In white enamel with black Arabic numerals and hand-painted floral garlands between the figures; winding holes positioned at 4 and 8 o'clock. Technical Sheet: Materials: Dark patinated bronze, veined marble, gilded bronze details. Dimensions: Height 56 cm. Period: Circa 1880 - 1895. Condition: Excellent; original patina preserved and mechanics complete with winding key.
