Large Incense Burner in Dark Patinated Bronze – Ceremonial Elephant with Pagoda Architecture – China Late Qing / Early 20th Century Period - Important cast and chased bronze artifact, conceived as a monumental display censer. The work depicts a standing ceremonial elephant, a symbol of strength and wisdom, with its trunk raised upwards. Elephant's Body: Entirely decorated with relief caparisons depicting imperial dragons among stylized clouds. The trappings are embellished with bead motifs, dangling tassels, and festooned harnesses. The Pagoda: On the animal's back rests a three-tiered pagoda architectural structure, finely perforated to allow the incense smoke to escape. The curved roofs are adorned with hanging bells; the lower level houses a small figure of a sage or dignitary. Technical Quality: Lost-wax casting of remarkable detail, characterized by a deep brown patina with subtle traces of mechanical gilding in the raised points.
