Antique Tobacco Felt Insert depicting the flag of Bulgaria. It was manufactured by Factory No. 64, 2d Dist. N.Y. as a collector's item for cigar or cigarette boxes. (circa 1910–1915) - These silk fabrics were distributed as a premium prize inside cigarette and tobacco packs in the United States, mainly by brands such as Richmond Straight Cut or Zira Cigarettes. Key item features Print: The tricolor flag (white, green, red) of Bulgaria, flanked by the official coat of arms of the kingdom (with the royal lions). Bottom text: The inscription ”Factory No. 64, 2d Dist. N.Y.” indicates the factory and taxing district in New York where the cigarettes were manufactured or packaged. Historical use: Collectors in the Edwardian period used to collect these pieces of silk and sew them together to create quilts, pillowcases or decorative items for the home and frame them.
