William Gale New York Silver Wirework Centerpiece / Fruit Bowl - William Gale New York Silver Wirework Centerpiece / Fruit Bowl A centerpiece bowl by William Gale & Son is a fine example of mid 19th century New York silver. Oval basket, solid interior with rows of twisting, intersecting wire rising to attach to the upper rim. The top rim has a die-rolled border of water leaves against a lined background and has loop handles hanging down at the ends. The oval, pedestal base is ornamented with complimentary banding, and with a silver shield on each side of the bowl, one monogrammed and the other dated “April 4th, 1866. Marked underneath with Gale & Son's trademark with the 1862 date along with 'Wm. GALE & SON/ NEW-YORK/ 925 STERLING.' Appx. 17dwt 6 x 10 1/2 x 8 1/2 in. (15.2 x 26.7 x 21.6 cm.)
