The case attributed to John and Thomas Seymour, Boston, 1800-1820. Provenance: Thomas Schwenke, American Federal Furniture, New York Exhibition: ”The Bicentennial Exhibition of the United States Constitution, ” Georgetown University, June 25 to August 14, 1988 90 1/2 x 19 x 10 in. (229.9 x 48.3 x 25.4 cm.) Condition: Pierced fretwork likely replaced. Shrinkage cracks to sides bonnet. Repairs to arched molding below fret. Glazing replaced. “Conversation” between saddle board and cheeks convincing. General inlay and construction techniques. Brass inlay stop fluting very rare and high-quality detail. Repair to shaft of pendulum. Some warping and losses to veneer on front left side of base. Breaks and repairs to feet. Front left foot lacking lower half of dove facing.
