Anthony Thieme studied at fine arts academies in Holland, Germany and Italy and spent his early years traveling throughout Europe making his living as a set designer. In the early nineteen-twenties he emigrated to the United States; after an initial stay in New York, Thieme continued to travel throughout North and South America. Then in 1929, following another tour of Europe, he gave up set design for good, married, and settled in Rockport, MA. There he established the Thieme School of Art and was instrumental in developing Rockport as a vital center for the arts. Thieme continued to travel and by the nineteen-fifties he had established a winter residence in St. Augustine, Florida. His work was quite obviously influenced by impressionism and he maintained a strong commitment to working en plein air. Condition: Condition reports are not provided in catalog descriptions.
