A QAJAR KULAH KHUD HELMET AND SEPAR SHIELD, PERSIA, 19TH CENTURY - This hemispherical steel helmet features exquisite engraved and chased decorations, showcasing repeated figures of two cherubs on either side of a vase set against a plant background. The design is punctuated by radiant sun-like faces, created using repoussé technique. A frieze of cartouches bearing Persian inscriptions in *Nasta'liq* script decorates the base of the helmet. At the top, a sculpted *div's* head with spiral inlay details crowns the piece, surmounted by a four-sided point. The div’s mouth holds the floral end of a central nasal, flanked by two holders for plumes. The interior of the helmet is lined with leather. The matching circular steel shield (rondache) also features repoussé work with four solar faces radiating from the center, surrounded by engraved floral motifs within mandorlas. Around the perimeter runs a frieze of cartouches and medallions containing further Persian *Nasta'liq* inscriptions. The reverse side is leather-trimmed, with a handle for use. Some areas of the design, particularly the inlays, feature gold embellishments. **Dimensions** - Helmet height: 31.5 cm. - Shield diameter: 46 cm. **Condition** The helmet is missing its *camail* (chainmail neck guard), and there are signs of wear including accidents, knocks, and oxidation. Much of the inlaid decoration has faded, and the leather lining shows significant wear.
