KAIKEN TANTO - A black lacquer koshirae adorned by a gold lacquer cloud and sinuous rain dragon design, fitted with a copper habaki. Nagasa (length of the blade): 18,5 cm Sori: none Motohaba (bottom width): 2,4 cm Sakihaba (top width): irrelevant because of shape (hira-zukuri) Motokasane (bottom thickness): 4,9 mm Sugata (configuration): Hira zukuri with iori mune Kitae (forging pattern): unrecognisable Hamon (tempering pattern): saka choji midare in nie-deki Boshi (tip): o-kaeri Nakago (tang): ubu ending in kurijiri decorated with kiri-yasurime, one mekugi-ana Overall dimensions: Length 30,6 cm, Width 3,7 cm, Depth 2,7 cm. Provenance: from a private Dutch collection. Probably Meiji-period (1868-1912). When this blade is well taken care of, a nice kaiken Tanto should appear (again). Minor traces of (old) rust and some shallow scratches. Please have a look at the photos for a clear condition reference.
