VERY LARGE CAST IRON OKIMONO 置物 OF A PERCHED HAWK - An impressive and very large cast iron okimono 置物, depicting a life-sized, naturalistically modelled hawk taka 鷹 (hawk) with finely detailed features and wings spread wide, perched in an imposing stance atop a four-footed perch. The ends of the stand are adorned with a crest mon 紋 (crest) depicting three swirling commas, while the openwork centre support features a 5–7–5 kiri 桐 (paulownia) crest. The undulating feet of the stand are embellished with cloud and tiger motifs. The hawk is finished with a warm copper patina, showcasing intricate feather details and a sharp gaze. The stand has a black patina with gilded highlights. The piece is constructed in four parts: the stand, the hawk’s body, and two detachable wings, each held in place with a pin. Period: Japan – Mid-Shôwa period (Mid-20th century). Dimensions: Height 91 cm, Width 107.5 cm, Depth 49 cm. Weight 20.5 kg In a very good condition.
