WOODEN SEWING BOX - A charming wooden sewing box 針箱 (haribako) designed with four drawers of varying sizes and a hinged lid on top. Crafted from precious keyaki wood (Zelkova – “Japanese oak”). The drawers equipped with small knobs or slender warabite handle. The lid opens side-ways and reveals a pin cushion fitted on the underside of the cover. It reveals a storage area and a compartment to house a ruler. Originally used for storing sewing equipment, this box is also an excellent choice for use as a jewellery box. Period: Japan – Taishô period (1912-1926). Dimensions: Height 24.5 cm, Width 33 cm, Depth 18.8 cm. In very good original condition with traces of age and use.
