AN ORACLE TURTLE SHELL, CHINA, SHANG DYNASTY, (c. 1600–1046 BC) - Ancient turtle plastron carved with early Chinese oracle bone inscriptions, used in divination rituals during the Shang Dynasty. Such shells were heated until cracks appeared, which were then interpreted by royal diviners. Length: 19.3 cm 13 cm. Provenance: Private collection mr. J.K., Switzerland
